Screaming hags, eyeless phantoms and a menagerie of unearthly creatures…
Next Tour: Saturday 22nd September at 7:30pm
Just some of the mysterious manifestations witnessed on what is said to be Scotland’s most haunted road – the A75…
Mostly Ghostly Tours, Dumfries & Galloway’s award winning guides launched their unique, road-based adventure in October 2013, accompanied by a brave group of ghostly enthusiasts.
Haunted Highways Tour lasts around two and a half hours, covering areas such as Annan, Dornock and Gretna Green along with the Kinmount Straight. The first tour kicked off on 26 October 2013 and will run quarterly with a possibility of more regular tours based on demand. Participants will hear a range of ghostly stories dating back to the late 1950’s of everyday people’s extraordinary road-based encounters. These tales will be interwoven with haunting tales from nearby locations.
For years, the intrepid team, who have created a range of successful ghost tours for Dumfries and Galloway, have been enthralled with the many and varied stories reported on the A75. Both the old and new parts of the route are steeped in local lore, with tales of ‘phantom hitchhikers’ in great abundance. Many thousands of vehicles travel each day on these parts of the road, including the stretch between Annan and Gretna and the infamous ‘Ghost Alley’ at Kinmount Straight, but do their drivers ever consider the wide array of weird and wonderful phantoms that may lie in store? Periodically reports come in from unsuspecting travellers who’ve been given quite a jolt when what they thought was a careless person on the road has simply vanished into thin air…
Kathleen Cronie, founder member of Mostly Ghostly said;
“As an innovative team with a passion for the paranormal and a desire to help boost local tourism, we see great potential in developing this tour to attract people with an interest in spooks and hauntings. The A75 road crops up frequently in polls of most haunted roads in Scotland, Britain and indeed, the world and best of all, it is right here in Dumfries & Galloway”
We are no strangers to unusual happenings on these allegedly haunted highways; as Kathleen continues;
“Back in December 2010, we took a slow drive along the older part of the A75, musing away to ourselves about how we might react if confronted by an apparition walking out in front of the car. Within the space of 24 hours this actually happened, albeit on a newer part of the road. An eminent researcher in the field, Dr. Peter McCue, once posed the question, might this event have been ‘staged’ for our benefit by unseen forces?”
