Need info on the Dumfries Ghost Walk? check out our FAQs

Find out more about our flagship walking tour:

Where does the Dumfries Ghost Walk start from?

We meet on the south side of the Midsteeple in Dumfries, where the new platform is situated (15 minutes before the walk begins).

What time does the walk begin and how often does it run?

As we are a seasonal project, times and frequency may vary, please see our ‘Booking’ section for more details.

How long does the walk last?

Approximately 1hr 45mins – times may vary

Do we need to book in advance?

If making a group booking, then yes. Generally, we encourage bookings to avoid disappointment, particularly at busy times of year; however you can take a chance and turn up on the night.

Can we book a private walk?

Yes, we are delighted to accommodate Private Bookings (minimum cost £100, based on the equivalent of 10 people paying £10). The great news is, you get an exclusive walk without having to pay more than the standard £10 per head. Please see ‘Booking’ and ‘T&C’s’ for more details.

NB. Concessionary prices do not apply on a private walk

Where can I buy tickets?

Tickets are on sale at the Midsteeple Box Office on 01387 253383 or through Ticketweb at www.ticketweb.co.uk

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept payments by cash, credit and debit card via the Midsteeple Box Office. If making a private booking, we are also happy to take cheques (payable in advance). Should you turn up on the night without tickets, we only accept cash.

Do I need to dress sensibly?

It is entirely up to the individual what they wear, however we do recommend gloves, hats, etc. in the winter time as it can get pretty chilly and shoes that are suitable for cobbled streets! Also, a brolly can be very handy for those unpredictable Scottish showers.

Is the walk wheelchair friendly?

Yes, most areas are accessible for wheelchair assisted access or a mobility scooter, although there is a semi-steep incline near the beginning of the walk. Should this be unsuitable, we can direct you to the next meeting place via an alternative route. Some pavements/closes are narrow and there are cobbles to negotiate. There is only one small flight of steps and we are happy to use another nearby location, if required, in order to avoid them. Please contact us for more access info.

Are there any age restrictions?

Due to health and safety, we do not allow under 5’s on the walk. We ask that children under 16 are accompanied by an adult and remind parents/carers that content may be disturbing for those of a nervous disposition; therefore children’s attendance is at parents/carers discretion.

Will guides be in costume?

Yes, we will be dressed in period costume and easy to spot.

What if the weather is bad?

We are happy to run planned walks irrespective of rain, wind or shine and would only cancel in extreme weather conditions that may spoil enjoyment or adversely affect the health and safety of participants e.g. packed ice, heavy snow storms etc. If in doubt, check the forum or ring us on the day of walk to check.

What if a walk is cancelled?

We will contact those who have booked in advance by text or phone and post an announcement on the website as well. Find out more in our ‘T&C’s’ section.

Can we take photographs on the ghost walk?

We are more than happy for people to take photos (you never know what might show up!) and only ask that you do not take them during presentations as this can be distracting for participants and guides alike. We operate a no video policy during our presentations; however you are welcome to take footage walking from place to place.

Can I bring my dog?

Guide dogs are welcome as well as friendly, well-behaved four-legged friends - dogs must be kept on a lead.

Is the walk suitable for people with a hearing impairment?

We have previously welcomed people with hearing impairments, however the needs of an individual can vary greatly. Guests who have difficulty hearing are more than welcome to stand closer to the guides. The majority of ghost walks take place during darkness which might not be suitable for people who lip read. We are happy to offer private tours during daylight hours in order to make these events more accessible. Please contact us to discuss your individual requirements.

Do you have ‘Jumper-Ooters’?

No, we believe these are a bit clichéd and can be counterproductive. The stories we are telling on the Dumfries Ghost Walk need no gimmicks to enhance them.

If you have any other questions, comments or queries, please contact the team through our website or call/text 07791 047835 or 07912 145865. We will be happy to help you with any enquiries. Please feel free to browse our other Ghost Walk sections where you will find more useful info. Best wishes, Mostly Ghostly Team
