All these things are wonderful but what about a darker chill; one that seeps into your bones as you listen awe-struck to a collection of eerie and terrifying tales on the streets of old Dumfries! With a promise to reveal hidden hauntings and harrowing history, you can be assured an unforgettable experience on the Dumfries Ghost Walk! We’re all keyed up to launch our fifth summer season (where did the time go?) and look forward to showcasing the spookier side of Dumfries to local residents and friends from far-flung places across the globe.

With a history dating back over 800 years, Dumfries has a most fascinating past. We focus on the darker side of human nature; harsh times when dreaded punishments were meted out to those who fell foul of the law, their neighbours and in some cases, families. Guests can anticipate tales of a dread pestilence that put a stranglehold on the town, historic executions and the injustices of the witch-hunting era which left a permanent stain on our history. Entwined around these gripping insights are a spine-tingling collection of local ghost stories, some tying in with historic events, others witnessed by unsuspecting people going about their daily business. We’ve even had reports of haunting happenings from guests on the ghost walk, so if you should hear, see or feel anything unusual, please tell your Mostly Ghostly guides!

Now, fast forwarding to Bank Holiday Sunday, August 2^nd, we’re thrilled to be returning to the gorgeous nature-abundant woodlands at Castle Loch, Lochmaben for an evening of Legends & Lore! Whether you visit by day or in the dark depths of night, we wholeheartedly recommend you go at least once, because if you do, once will never be enough! Imagine the contrast of an ancient ruin, lush woodlands and serene loch, sounds heavenly! Add suspenseful stories set to a natural twilight soundtrack of hooting owls and flurrying batwings for a shiversome night to remember!

Dare you join the Mostly Ghostly team as we reveal tales of poltergeist activity and strange apparitions? Let us lead you round the grounds bordering Lochmaben Castle and reveal the dark heart of this historic ruin. With ghosts, legends, curses and a vampire legend harking back to the 12th century, we’ll set your teeth on edge. This is very much an interactive event and our guests will be invited to take part in a rod and crystal dowsing session and spend a little time gathered within a woodland copse, waiting…
